On March 6 and 7, the Michigan Flyers, a flight school based at the Ann Arbor airport, hosted a series of outreach events targeted at both middle school and high school students as an effort to increase students’ awareness of aviation-related careers.
On March 6 and 7, the Michigan Flyers, a flight school based at the Ann Arbor airport, hosted a series of outreach events targeted at both middle school and high school students as an effort to increase students’ awareness of aviation-related careers. Eight student volunteers from the University of Michigan’s Aerospace Engineering department helped to run the event, and gave lectures on aerodynamics and rocket propulsion, as well as launched model rockets.
During the two-day event, four different public schools brought their students to the airport to experience the activities prepared by the volunteers, and the Michigan engineering students had the chance to interact with almost 200 children and teenagers on both days.
As the Aerospace Engineering Department’s 100th anniversary approaches, our group’s participation in events such as this shows how much Michigan Aerospace values sharing its legacy and passion for flight as a way to inspire the future great minds of our industry.
