Recent U-M Aerospace Engineering alumna earns three awards at ASEE conference
Aerospace Engineering alumna Corin Bowen received three awards at the 2021 ASEE annual conference.
Aerospace Engineering alumna Corin Bowen (PhD 2021, MSE 2015) received three separate awards at the 2021 American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) annual conference for her paper “Critical Analyses of Representation and Success Rates of Marginalized Undergraduate Students in Aerospace Engineering.”
The paper earned the Superior Student Paper Award; Best Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Paper Award; and Best Paper Award, all in the Aerospace Engineering Division.
In the paper, Bowen and her co-authors—University of Michigan Aerospace Engineering faculty members Aaron Johnson and Ken Powell—presented a quantitative analysis of the underrepresentation and inequitable outcomes of women, students of color, and working-class students in an aerospace engineering department at a large, prestigious public research university.
Bowen is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the College of Engineering, Computer Science and Technology at California State University, Los Angeles and a lecturer at the University of San Diego.
