Ilya Kolmanovsky’s long standing research partnership with Toyota Research Institute is featured in the announcement for TRI’s renewed university partnership program.
Featuring 21 universities and contributing $100M to collaborative research, TRI has been a dedicated corporate research funder for years. The University of Michigan has been one of the leading partners in this program since its inception.
Kolmanovsky’s research with TRI focuses on control systems for autonomous vehicles. Specifically, he is researching a governor architecture to create faster, more efficient model predictive control (MPC) control system solutions. TRI researchers collaborated on and took inspiration from this project to create a solution for Toyota Motors that solves a vehicle controller problem where sudden changes to setpoints would cause unresponsiveness.
